Stillness

I like the stillness of 5am
Electric sleep. Restful
Devices gently hum
Smoke dissipates
Breathable air seeps
Back into a comfortable
Chair. The lungs of a city
Contract, and expand
When I least expect the
Silence to end.
But it always does
Even before the birdsong
The dull orange bursts into
Colour. We rotate
Back to daylight saving
Time best paid for with
Stiff caffeine hits
Stillness. No major dramas
We drift off
Like detached leaves
Gravity pulling
Heavy eyes under
A light blue blanket
