Salt Dinner

Life is a dry mouth
Gasping for a cold beverage
Sores that burst inside
Internal combustion engine
Stomach pain passing
Through the intestinal gap
Between finely cut white grains
Ingested in good faith
At someone else’s behest
Peer pressure grinding
A dry tongue, gagging
I need another goddamn
Drink on this bar
Service slower at this hour
Crystallised rocks take
No time to add
Onto any surface
Improved taste
Licking the counter
As we wait on
A waiter comes
We insult his intelligence
But he can only apologise
Bringing an additional side
For a carpet swept over
